International Almere Community
Almere’s home for internationals. Since 2010.

Long before anyone called it a movement, a few people in Almere started gathering — for coffee, for conversation, for the small relief of being understood. That’s how the International Almere Community began, back in 2010. It’s still doing the same thing, just with more people in the room.
This is where the social, human heart of BELONG NL lives. The events. The Sunday circles. The familiar faces. The people who remember what your first month felt like, because theirs felt the same.
Stay connected — without living on social media
Get updates on what’s coming up, highlights from recent gatherings, ways to get involved, and practical tips for building a life in Almere, so you never miss a thing. Whether you arrived last week or years ago, it’s an easy way to stay close to the community without scrolling for it.
We respect your peace and your privacy. No spam, no noise, and you can leave any time.
If your life spans more than one place, you belong here.
The International Almere Community is for anyone in Almere whose life touches more than one country — internationals, students, professionals, families, newcomers, and long-term residents alike. Locals who want to connect with the international side of the city are part of it too.
You don’t need to fit a profile to join. English is our main language, but many languages and backgrounds are in the room — honestly, you’re more likely to meet someone who broadens your world at one of our events than just about anywhere else in the city.
If you’re curious about meeting people outside your usual circles — or you don’t have a circle here yet — this is for you.

A community, not a checklist
Moving to Almere comes with a lot of firsts. New streets, new systems, new routines. The practical side tends to fall into place — you grab your OV-chipkaart and you’re on your way. It’s the social side that takes longer. Not because people here are unfriendly, but because daily life runs in parallel: work, family, the circles people already have.
That’s the gap the International Almere Community fills. Not to fix anything — just to make it easier to meet people and feel part of what’s already here. A ready-made group of people who understand exactly what you’re going through, because most of us have been through it too.
There’s no pressure to be outgoing and no expectation to stay all evening. Some people come once. Others keep coming back for years. Both are fine. We’re here when you need us.

Easy to join, open by default
We bring internationals and locals in Almere together through events and activities that are simple to walk into. Some are social, some are practical, some are just a good excuse to get out of the house and meet new faces.
What we focus on:
- Relaxed spaces where conversation happens naturally
From Dutch practice over coffee to a Friday-evening drink at Bierfabriek. - Local knowledge that helps you find your feet
The things no relocation pack tells you, shared by people living it. - Room to take part at your own pace
Show up, settle in, do as much or as little as feels right.
Everything we do is community-driven. There’s no membership requirement and no expectation to commit long-term. Some events are ticketed, some are free, and there’s an easy, low-cost membership that helps keep it all running.
Start by simply showing up
Most people begin by coming to an event. Arrive on your own, bring a friend, or just come to see what it’s like. For most events there’s no sign-up pressure and no expectation to do more than feels comfortable.
If you’d like to be more involved, there’s room to volunteer, help organise, or suggest something you feel is missing in the city.
Events Calendar
The International Almere Community Events Calendar is the social, human heart of our community. While the practical side of moving to Almere often falls into place quickly, building a genuine social life takes time. That’s why we bring internationals and locals together through events and activities that are simple, relaxed, and open by default.
Believe. Belong. Become.
You made the move. This is where the next part happens — where daily life becomes navigable, where the city starts to feel like yours, and where, one day, you’re the familiar face welcoming someone new.
We’ve been doing this since 2010, and the door is still open.
